A performer, choreographer and creative force driven by movement, emotion and story. From Irish theatre stages to international festivals, LA Feeney’s artistic journey has been nothing short of remarkable.
Expressing stories through motion.
Movement. Soul. Art.As a passionate performing artist and building on a scholarship to the Millennium Dance Complex, Los Angeles, USA (hip-hop dance, 2016), following my UCD Degree in Performing Arts on a scholarship with the Ad Astra Performing Arts program, I continued to learn my craft training and performing with Avant Garde Dance Theatre Company (UK) and Fly Dance Company (Ireland) as well as dance residencies with Dance Ireland and Shawbrook Dance.
Mentorship from pioneering dancers from Ireland, UK, Europe and USA (Nikkipop (Ukraine), Robozilla (USA), Harry Barnes (UK), Kerrie Milne (Ireland), Matt Szczerek (Ireland) and Max Revell (UK)).
My recent work: Agility Award 2024 (Research and Development of “Fused…” that took place in January 2025), Dance Ireland Funded Residency 2024 (exploring my new concept “The Animated Identity”), Europa League Final, Aviva Stadium 2024 (Dancer), Eurovision Irish National Song Contest (Dancer, JyellowL), Electric Picnic 2024 (Smirnoff Stage), Red Bull Events (Red Bull International Diving Championships 2024), Arts Council Funded “The Nest” program with Draíocht, Blanchardstown (solo performance choreographed by Monica Muñoz aimed at children and young people 2024).
“Fused…” blends hip-hop dance with non-hip hop music such as “West Coast Cool Jazz”, “Classical” and “80’s Soft Rock” music at the Irish Youth Dance Summer Festival and Winter Gala, 2023/24/25. “Never Mind the Weather”, 2021/2022 (Dance Theatre performance for young audiences with Fizz and Chips Productions), "RACECAR", 2021 (performed at the Lasta Festival, glór, Ennis, choreographed by Kerrie Milne).
Since 2022, I have also immersed myself in the hip-hop battle scene across Europe travelling and “battling” regularly with increasing success.
My Approach to Creating Work: As an avid Freestyler, my choreographic process is rooted in improvisation. I would always arrive into a space with a specific concept, an idea for a narrative and a playlist of music. A painting would mean nothing without a canvas; paint brush and colours and I view my craft very much like I’m creating a moving piece of art. The concept is the canvas, the narrative the paint brush and the music the colours. The movement is found by connecting all of these constants with improvisation, allowing the emotions and feeling that is supplied to find the most natural way of moving. Doing this allows me to create a movement language that I can draw from when fine-tuning the way in which I would like to present the narrative and concept for an audience to fully understand what I am trying to say.
